“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it,
to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

In 1856, the Sailor’s Home coat of arms was carved in Limerick, celebrating the laying of the foundation stone for a place built to declare welcome for explorers. Celebrating those who explore at the limits of possibility, and simultaneously offering a warm welcome to Limerick in the West of Ireland - to stay, to meet other adventurers, to share a drink and the experience.

Today, we celebrate those who live boldly, who share the journey in real life.

Community is found in who we are, the places we gather, and the spirit of adventure and welcome that connects us. Coming together to share a moment, over a great Irish whiskey - looking back, looking forward, the here and now.

We are …

MADE BY THE JOURNEY

It’s about how we got here. Where we go from here. And who we share the journey with.

We engage with the world with the best we have to bring. And so, we grow, experience, change and savour these times. Live fully. Choose boldly. Make the more interesting choice.

Take the world as you find it. There’s joy in stepping beyond the familiar - in the detours taken, the table that runs long, the story retold for years after.

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back.

So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors.”

Terry Pratchett

Irish (Gaelic):

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat,
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl,
Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d'aghaidh,
Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna,
Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís,
Go gcoinní Dia i mbos a láimhe thú.

English:

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall softly upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
